Outline for Essay on French Revolution; due Tuesday!



The French Revolution is considered a major turning point in world history. Was violence necessary?  Write a thesis statement (an argument) as part of your introduction.
 
Introduction:  ”It was/was not necessary to use bloody violence to change France. 
 
1.1.  The Problem:  3 Estates divided the French into classes with different rights and representation.  Poor Harvests.  Government debt.
2.2.  The actions or lifestyles of the King and Queen and Versailles vs. the life of the people.; famine, taxes, etc.
3.3.  How and to what extent did people gained rights. Discuss: the Storming of the Bastille,. National Assembly at Versailles.  Tennis Court Oath and the Declaration of Rights of Man. The Declaration of Rights Women excluded from these rights.
4.4.  March by Women to Versailles; Capture the King and Queen and imprison in Paris;  The Guillotine for execution of the King and Queen (fear that loyalists and neighboring Kings would reinstall the King)
5.5.  Resolution: the Reign of Terror, and Robespierre and Marat (see notes); include Crushing Rebellion in Lyon. 
 
Conclusion:  In the end, what improvements were made in the government and citizens’ rights? Did France become A Republic of Virtue? A success?How?
